There are plenty of restaurant schedule templates available and these fancy templates can help with accounting for labor costs, as well as creating the actual schedule. But, they can also be unnecessarily confusing and complicated and tend to get us caught up in the form over the function. I find it is best to create my own restaurant schedule template in an excel spreadsheet. Within that spreadsheet I create two tools. The first is a graph of the shift needs of the restaurant, and the second is to fill those shift needs in with necessarily skilled staff.
It’s a simple process, if taken one step at a time. I first create columns across the top for the days of the week. Then use the staffing positions or sections with the name of the employee down the first column. I repeat that same process for a second shift on any given day.
If you need to keep track of labor hours, you can set the cell attributes at the end of each row. It will look like this =(b2+b3+b4+b5, etc.) and the hours will automatically be calculated for you.
Let me know how it works or if you have any questions. I’d be happy to help you work out your own template. Contact me today.
